Seamen!
KNOW YOUR RIGHTS!
DEMAND YOUR RIGHTS!
If you work as a seaman in any type of ship that visits ports in the United States, you have many rights and protections under American law. You still have these rights whether or not you are a citizen or resident of the United States. You still have these rights even if you signed an employment contract waiving them. You still have these rights, even if you were sent home because of injury or illness, before you could take any action in the United States.
These are your rights as seamen!
The right to work aboard a ship in good condition free of defects and dangerous conditions.
The right to receive money compensation for any damage or injury to your person if such damage or injury occurs because of the negligence of your employer or because of dangerous conditions aboard the ship.
The right to receive immediate and adequate medical treatment for any accident or sickness that occurs while working for the ship regardless of cause.
The right to receive maintenance (hotel, food, etc.) and sometimes your wages while you are being treated for any injury or illness.
The right to double your wages if your employer owes them to you but has refused to pay them while under a doctor's care for your injury or illness.
The right to hire a lawyer that will protect your interests, not those of company.
YOU HAVE THREE YEARS (3). These rights must be exercised within three years. These accidents have a statute of limitations of three years. This means that after three years your rights are lost, and your lawsuit can not be filed in any American court.
If you have any questions regarding your rights,
you can call us free of charge.
